Is it weird that I actually feel relieved that you're out of LA? I admit I've been increasingly concerned over the last few months - it just doesn't seem like a safe/nurturing place for creative types. As though the environment is designed to break you, and the more emotionally invested in your project you are, the greater your danger. It is likely that I have no idea what I'm talking about. But I think this is a good decision.

WOW. that was amazing. kind of inspiring. got me thinking. or perhaps remembering a bit more who i am/ am not. like realizing something obvious that somehow wasn't. I sense this is the right/appropriate move for not only Jess, but AE. goes against the presumed expected, and yet is fully reasonable. maybe more correct to say that you are not leaving LA, but LA is leaving you... as in being purged.

Katie- I think you do know what you're talking about.

You may have seen this quote I put up recently on Twitter:

I must go down to the sea again, to the lonely sea and the sky. And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by.

---John Masefield

Masterfully written post, by the way. You will probably hate me for saying this, but it is very reminiscent of the "old days" (pre-twitter) when the posts were longer, more often, and the web site not as polished. Not that I'm saying that was a better time, necessarily, just different.

Wander as you need to. Crash where you can. We're here, following, helping, standing next to you. Sounds like a thrilling and freeing decision.

Loved the maritime quote above.

Especially loved the images in this post. You are creatively masterful, Jess, really.

I Must Go Down to the Sea

I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,
And the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sail's shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea's face and a grey dawn breaking.

I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.

I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull's way and the whale's way where the wind's like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick's over.
