What about Terminator 2 & The Matrix? Strong women! |

Perhaps not applicable, yo. There's a school of criticism which examines marketed movie "feminism" that is not really a threat to the patriarchy/falls under the "male gaze". For a recent, far more egregious example: Sucker Punch. Something worth considering.
With this list, however, I was simply curating well-written and made, interesting films that happen to feature coming-of-age (or similar) stories with lead female characters who further the narrative.
I am often asked for this style of recommendation from parents who want to find intelligent media for their daughters or peers looking for insight into films they haven't yet heard of. |

Agreed. Yes, Sucker Punch was bad. Not what I expected. Though I wouldn't recommend Winter's Bone to young girls. Great film. Adult themes. But I get your point. |

In regard to Winter's Bone: Teens and young adults are over 17 or close to. No one here has suggested the film for young girls, by which I assume you mean tweens and younger. |

Yes, you are correct. Forgive me. As soon as I wrote that comment, I realized my mistake. I've been working on limiting my comebacks/quips. Stover 1, Coles 0 |
