Jess! I'm so glad you posted that Colbert clip because he's so awesome, but you spelled his name wrong! It's STEPHEN! He is a national treasure and has a HID in Hungary named after him... you gotta get the spelling right!
Also... Demetri Martin rocks. Kind of has that Mitch Hedberg feel. He's also as funny as Mitch. |

favorite analytical papers: i once had an assignment to compare jungian archetypes in the star wars trilogy to those in another movie. i chose the rocky horror picture show. in high school, i also had to do a poetry analysis and chose to analyze the lyrics to TMBG's "Birdhouse in Your Soul." what you choose to write on, when you have a choice, is key (although i also had to to an analysis of Alfred Noyes' "The Highwayman," and although i had no choice in the subject matter, it remains one of my favorite papers, and poems).

I don't think there's anything wrong with being a generalist. but of course, myself being fascinated with inter-relation if ideas, i'm biased. though i prefer "Renaissance Man" (or woman). like DaVinci. except that he was a genius with everything he dabbled in... so really just DaVinci-ish. there are simply too many interesting things to limit ourselves to only one subject.
As for the Red idea, i suppose every bit helps, and it's a clever way to generate funds through commerce. but it feels to me like more symbolism over substance. buy/ wear a ribbon and save the world? does it really accomplish anything, i wonder?
on a related note, i finally found a charity (anti-poverty)that i am comfortable donating large sums of money to, and it felt awesome to be able to do that. *insert plug here* http://www.grameenfoundation.org/
and bobby pins: yeah, it's sun to dig through old, discarded stuff and rediscover hidden treasures. "i totally forgot i had this. um, WHY do i still have this?" and "so THAT's where this went!" mixed with some "ah, this brings back the memories." |
